Winter traction and insulation

Packaged as a pair of 2 boots, the Ruffwear Polar Trex Boots are engineered for winter weather and designed to provide warmth and traction on snow and ice. Insulated upper softshell fabric creates breathable, weatherproof warmth in extreme cold and inclement weather. Ruffwear-designed Vibram® outsole provides optimum traction on frozen surfaces.

Closure system combines hook-and-loop with hardware, cinching around the narrowest part of the dog’s leg to provide a secure fit. Pullover stretch gaiter keeps snow out and improves retention by protecting the hook-and-loop ankle closure from the elements.

Just as you would with your gear, adjust fit and check tension of boots 15 minutes into your activity and throughout the adventure as needed.

Sold as a set of 2 boots to accommodate the different sizes for the front and back paws. Be sure to measure the front and back paws separately to ensure the best fit!

The boots stay on well. Takes a little while getting use to putting them on & also for them to get use to wearing them!! We went at it gradually, getting him use to them being on his front 2 paws then worked on the back paws. Appreciated at how quickly they arrived in the mail.

My Golden Retriever Gédéon who is 11 years old wear Polar Trex boots since he was 3 years old. The new one are the second set in 7 years. They fit well they are made strong and easy to put and they stay in place. I recommanded them to every dog lovers. They protect the paws from salt and calcium on city streets.

This is our second pair of Ruffwear Polar Trex boots not because of the first one had issues but rather we love it so much we got another pair for our second dog. They sell in pairs (two boots) as many dog's front paws are slightly larger than the hind ones so be mindful when purchasing. The guide is very helpful to find the perfect fit by simply measuring the width of your dog's paw. The inner portion of the boot has a velcro which wraps around the paw (side note, it includes the size as well which is helpful if the boots are different size) and the outer portion is a membrane fitted with a zipper which helps keep the paws dry and snow balls from building up. The soles of the boots are Vibram which is sturdy and provides protection from the elements. Our dogs quickly got used to them and started running in them in no time. Overall, in our opinion, these boots are great and protect our dogs from the salt and cold/ice due to winter conditions.

Love the boots! They came fast just before the snowstorm hit. Keep paws warm and dry in the snow :) my dog can run in them no problem. Just be careful when putting them on if your dog has dew claws.

We live on the prairies so the winters are long and cold. Our dogs frequently wear boots to prevent ice buildup between their toes & to allow them to enjoy more time outside. My 12 year old standard poodle goes on a daily 2-3 km off leash walk where he runs and plays with other dogs. As he’s aged he’s started to have occasional slipping/splay type episodes while wearing his soft soled boots (another popular brand). The Polar Trex boots have noticeably improved his grip and therefore his safety. We’ve now ordered a set for his younger poodle sister because we’re impressed with the quality and increased traction. A word of warning; getting them on is a bit of a challenge for both person and dog as they fit tightly but it does get easier with practice and as the boots stretch a bit to the dog’s foot. It would be especially challenging if the dog wasn’t used to having boots put on, but worth persevering.

My dog, Waffles, wore her booties out in the freezing cold and snow up to her chest. The booties protect her paws and she seems to have a great time outside with them! It definitely keeps her warm enough to frolic in the snow and it stays on the entire time. The one thing I don’t like about these boots is that snow collects between the zipper and velcro layer. Otherwise, this is a good product.

My only issue with the boots is if she goes into deep snow . Snow gets in the rim of the boot . But I like the boots she loves them.

I am finding it hard to decide which is the right size for my pup. She seems to be in-between sizes on her front paws. We are still just experimenting with them indoors. These booties do seem to be very sturdy, likely to stay on and I hope that they will provide good grip on the ice. I do also think that the socks help to get the boots on the paws.

I honestly think these boots are super well made! Unfortunately they are not appropriate for my 26 months old Border Collie Ema who’s super intense in her sports - because the boots are really hard she gets blisters. I’ve tried tapping her paws/legs first and I’ve even tried socks but she still end up with severe blisters which is just too bad, because I really like your company! I definitely can’t put the boots on her front paws and since I can’t use them when we train (Cani Cross) I’ve been using them for short walks but only on her rear paws. Maybe you should make a boot that comes higher with a softer fabric for the legs? Katerine & Ema

We initially bought the boots (older version) on the back because he kept hurting his paws and when we decided to look for the front ones, no stores around us had it in his size. These boots are great... once you have put them on! Not easy to put on, you have to be 2 people to do it. And we have a very calm dog. I can't imagine what it is to do this with an excited dog!!!

The dog boots appear to be well constructed and once they are on they STAY ON ! I have two small issues , they are frustratingly hard to get on my dogs feet ( Wirehaired Pointing Griffon ) and the sole is very slippery on icy roads ! If the treads were more aggressive, the dog would definitely have better traction ! That being said , on rocky , or ground with cactus they would be excellent!

You'll have to take this review with a grain of salt since we're only about 2 weeks into using the product. We're quite happy with the boots so far. The quality of the product is in line with expectations for the cost, and the way the shoes are marketed. The vibram sole seems to perform quite well in the snow and ice, with a good amount of grip. We are using these in conjunction with the socks, which makes putting the boots on a lot easier over a dew claw. I'm sure you can go without them, but they're not a gimmick. It takes a few extra moments to another 4 sets of footwear on, but once the socks are on, the boots can go on easier. There's certainly a learning curve. The combination velcro + zip closure keeps the boots on (only a couple dropped boots) but my pup's skinny legs may be thinner than dogs with his size feet -- and we're getting some snow ingress past the gaiter, leading to a buildup inside the gaiter. The velcro stays put though and does not get coated in snow and come loose, unlike a different boot we tried.

I rarely leave reviews but these boots need one. Having an older dog with mobility issues we tried many different boots (need to protect his toenails and help with traction). The Ruff Wear Grip Trex (summer version-bought at a local store) were by far the best… they stay on and don’t spin on his feet… but we needed something that kept his feet dry and warm -that’s when we discovered the winter version and I was lucky to find them here (super grateful as they were hard to find). Shipping was decent considering the time of year. They were true to size (same as summer version) though a little more slimline with the gator sleeve. Takes a bit of adjusting but totally worth it. No issues with waterproofing, his feet or boot liners are always dry when we take them off. Now my dog gets excited when I take these boots out. He gets to go out and explore and I know his feet are protected. Everyone is happy! This is my first purchase from See Sawyer Run but I’ll definitely be a repeat customer. Thanks!

The Ruffwear Polar Trex Boots are the only boots that reliably stay on our dog's paws while he engages in activities like breaking trail for XC skiing. We recently replaced an older worn out pair on his front paws and the latest 2020-21 version has some improvements that seem to help with foot articulation. Sizing is critical and the team and See Sawer Run are always available for live consultation on their products. The Ruffwear Polar Trex shoes are of excellent quality. The treads provide solid traction and protect Moustache from damaging his paws on ice while so far they have stayed on in deeper snow. The design of having a cuff over the Velcro strap is brilliant as it stops snow from loosening the strap while lessening the amount of snow balls that accumulate on our dog’s long hair. I highly recommend the shoes.

The best boots we’ve found for staying on paws! We’ve noticed our Brittany naturally spreads his feet when running on ice or hard pack snow- so, if you are buying for a “runner” we suggest you carefully look at paw tracks on hardpack if possible in addition to recommended measurement method and if he/ she opens up the toes then be sure to accommodate in. Size selection!

I received these amazing boots. After a few minutes to adapt herself to them (it’s the first time she wears boots), she started to run into snow, walk, and play so proudly! She was so happy!!
